Two brothers had an idea to open a rustic, laid back tap room in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The brainchild Tap 42, is a well needed addition to the South Florida dining scene. Owners, Sean and Blaise McMackin created the look by using multi-colored barn wood, re-bar metals and raw steel. Their goal was to design an unusual, earthy atmosphere for patrons to enjoy.The literal origin of the name is that Tap 42 offers 42 draft beers, bottle beers and bourbons to choose from. For the more figurative minded, the name was inspired by the Douglas Adams’ novel, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy in which the number 42 stood for the meaning of life. And, what better way to celebrate life then to eat, drink and be merry? Tap 42 provides a friendly atmosphere with all of the elements that patrons desire in a neighborhood bar: a variety of food and drink, great music and a relaxed environment.

There is plenty of free on and off street parking along with convenient valet service. The restaurant offers both comfortable indoor and outdoor seating. Happy Hour is Monday-Friday from 4-7pm featuring half off wine, well drinks, and domestic bottle beer. The upscale tap room serves high end beer and food for both lunch and dinner. The menu offers a selection of bar snacks, salads and burgers in addition to a generous variety of wine and craft beers to quench your thirst and satisfy your appetite. The Oskar Blues Dales Pale Ale is an especially notable craft beer originating from Colorado. The Delirium Tremens from Belgium has a creamy, light flavor accompanied by a fruity aftertaste. Victory Prima Pils comes from a brewing company in Pennsylvania. It is a smooth, pale lager definitely worth trying. Tap 42 also serves a number of flavored noteworthy flavor beers like: Woodchuck Hard Cider, Wells Banana Bread-Fruit Beer, and Hurricane Reef Raspberry Wheat to name a few. With so many beers to choose from there is bound to be something to please everyone from the novice to the connoisseur.
For starters, try the Meat and Cheese Board consisting of a selection of cured meat, artisan cheeses, olives, and pickled vegetables. The appetizer is a do it yourself antipasto made up of quality meat and cheese. After, ask for the Florida Rock Shrimp Mac and Cheese made with Gnocchetti pasta, Tillamook cheddar cheese, bacon, Crimini mushrooms, tomatoes, herbs and bread crumbs. The creamy texture of the macaroni and cheese combined with the shrimp is delicious.
For your next course, order the Rogue River Skirt Steak Salad with Rogue River blue cheese, iceberg lettuce, watercress, cherry tomatoes, bacon, pickled red onions, herb croutons and blue cheese dressing. The combination of the steak and blue cheese is mouth watering. The Artic Char Blood Orange Salad is comprised of spinach, arugula, watercress, red cabbage, goat cheese, hearts of palm, cherry tomatoes tossed with blood orange vinaigrette. The fish is cooked to perfection and seasoned well. The Artic Char salad is very light and refreshing.
The Breakfast-Lunch-Dinner burger is a unique twist on the traditional burger. It is hearty and filling with three main layers: fried egg, hamburger and fried green tomato topped with country ham, swiss cheese and jalapeno cheese sauce. The Waldorf is made with ground turkey, chipotle, Rogue River blue cheese, Red Delicious apples, tart cherries, toasted walnuts and arugula.
Leave room for dessert, the Double Layer Chocolate Cake and the Spiced Vanilla Sour Cream Mousse are decadent endings to your meal.
