Husband and wife duo Frank and Yaddi Rodriguez known for the well-established Chimney House opened their latest venture, Casa Playa in May 2024. Locals and tourists alike have welcomed this new Latin fusion restaurant located at 401 N Birch Road just two blocks from Fort Lauderdale Beach behind the W Hotel.
Casa Playa or the Beach House has a beautiful interior space consisting of a bright open seating area that maximizes the natural light with earth tone decor and hanging plants all contributing to the Bohemian aesthetic. A hand painted mural by local artist, Lori Pratico pays homage to the love of palm trees that line the street upon entering the restaurant. A generous sized covered patio allows guests to dine al fresco.
The menu draws upon the owners’ Colombian heritage with Classic South American recipes incorporating Peruvian influences in a charming seaside restaurant. Think traditional Latin cuisine like ceviche, empanadas, and ropa vieja served in a chic, beachy atmosphere.
During my visit I asked to be seated outside. I can’t think of a better way to enjoy a beautiful South Florida evening than a cocktail in hand accompanied by a light ocean breeze. I opted for the classic margarita on the rocks with a salt rim and a dehydrated lime. For starters, I chose the Pulpo a la Parrilla with roasted fingerling potatoes. The appetizer was fresh, light, and vibrant seasoned perfectly with peppers and cilantro for the perfect flavor profile. I was in the mood for seafood, so I ordered the Spanish Mussels cooked in garlic white wine sauce with Spanish chorizo. The mussels were tender, and the added chorizo kicked up the spice level. Both appetizers were the perfect choice for a coastal atmosphere. As far as entrees, I tried the Wagyu Skirt Steak Casa Playa. The grilled wagyu skirt steak was served with chimichurri, roasted potatoes, asparagus and guacamole. The steak was perfectly cooked. I couldn’t leave the restaurant without trying a traditional Latin dish. I ordered Lechon Asado Mojo. Marinated pork slow oven roasted with sautéed onions, house rice and black beans. The pork was moist and flavorful. The malbec wine, a full-bodied Argentinian red paired well with the two entrees.
Bring your pup for a bite or a drink. The patio is dog friendly. Enjoy drink and food specials Tuesday-Friday from 4-7pm for happy hour.
